The invention provides a method for co-extruding a primary, substrate material and at least one secondary material to produce a multi-component product, by preparing primary and secondary extrudates and feeding them together through an extrusion die via a co-extrusion adapter, wherein the secondary extrudate flows in a direction perpendicular, or substantially perpendicular, to the direction of flow of the primary extrudate at the point where the two extrudates meet within the co-extrusion adapter. The invention also provides a multi-component product made using the method. It further provides a method for adapting an existing apparatus, designed for the extrusion of a single-component product, to allow its use in the co-extrusion of a mufti-component product, which involves inserting into the apparatus a co- extrusion adapter of the type described. The invention also provides apparatus, comprising such a co-extrusion adapter, for producing a mufti-component product, and a co-extrusion adapter for use in the apparatus or in one of the methods of the invention.
