ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved coagulation-flocculation process is pro- vided which leads to the formation of flocs of greater size and of higher mechanical strength without irreversible for- mation of microflocs comprising applying, at least in the initial stage of the process, an initial operative cycle to a suspension having aggregate-forming properties and containing a coagulant, said cycle comprising: (i) a fast agitation step at an average velocity gradient comprised between 300 and 1 000 s-1 for a duration comprised between 30 and 200 sec.; and (ii) a slow agitation step at an average velocity gradient comprised between 40 and 100 s-1, for a time comprised between 5 and 40 min.
