ABSTRACT Method and apparatus for the reproducible rapid measurement of coagulation rate. A uniform bore xeaction tube is employed to take up sample, The tube contains the appropriate amounts of lyophilized reagents reguired to conduct an individual test. Use of the method and apparatus for prothrombin time determina- tion is disclosed. Calibration marks are provided on the tube which are correlated in terms of prothrombin times. The liquid sample reacts with the reagents and together therewith becomes immobilized in its descent down the tube. The position of immobilization corresponds to the test time in the example. The rate of descent is controlled by a limiting orifice or by known in- clination of the tube relative to its vertical axis.
