ABSTRACT A coal gasification plant is disclosed comprising a water bath in its reaction unit, and/or a waste-heat boiler which is arranged in series, to receive the slag which is discharged together with the water. The plant is characterized in that it has a settling tank located in the flow path of the slag-carrying water for slag particles having a higher displacement weight than the water, and/or a separator for floatable slag particles.
