"COAL LIQUEFACTION PROCESS WITH OIL SAND BITUMEN DERIVED SOLVENT" ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for liquefying coal is described which utilizes solvents obtained from oil sand bitumen. The process comprises slurrying pulverized coal with oil sand bitumen or a liquid fraction derived therefrom and heating the slurry to liquefy a substantial portion of the coal. Exemplary solvents include bitumen, deasphalted bitumen, the oil fraction of bitumen, coker gas oil and hydrotreated coker gas oil. The process can be practised under hydrogenation conditions.
