An article is coated with a multi-layer decorative and protective coating having the appearance of stainless steel (Figure 3). The coating comprises a polymer layer on the surface of said article and vapor deposited on the polymer layer a protective and decorative layer comprised of the reaction products of refractory metal or refractory metal alloy, nitrogen and oxygen wherein the nitrogen and oxygen content of the reaction products are each from about 4 to about 32 atomic percent with the nitrogen content being at least about 3 atomic percent.
L'invention porte sur un article revêtu d'un revêtement décoratif et protecteur multicouche ayant l'aspect de l'acier inoxydable (figure 3). Le revêtement comprend une couche polymère sur la surface dudit article et de la vapeur déposée sur la couche polymère alors que la couche de protection et de décoration est constituée de produits réactionnels d'un métal réfractaire ou d'un alliage de métal réfractaire, d'azote et d'oxygène, la teneur totale en azote et oxygène de ces produits réactionnels étant pour chacun d'environ 4 à environ 32 pourcent atomique, la teneur en azote étant d'au moins environ 3 pourcent atomique.
