An article is coated with a multi-layer coating having the appearance of stainless steel (Figure 3). The coating comprises a polymeric basecoat layer on the surface of said article and vapor deposited on the polymeric basecoat layer a protective and decorative color layer of a refractory metal nitride, refractory metal alloy nitride or the reaction products of a refractory metal or a refractory metal alloy, nitrogen and oxygen, where the nitrogen content of the refractory metal nitride, refractory metal alloy nitride, or reaction products of a refractory metal or refractory metal alloy, nitrogen and oxygen is from about 3 to about 22 atomic percent.
L'invention concerne un article revêtu par un revêtement multicouches ayant l'apparence de l'acier inoxydable (figure 3). Ce revêtement comprend une couche primaire polymère disposée sur la surface dudit article et une couche colorée de protection et de décoration déposée sur cette couche primaire polymère selon un procédé de métallisation sous vide. Cette couche colorée est constituée d'un nitrure de métal réfractaire, d'un nitrure d'alliage de métaux réfractaires ou des produits de réaction d'un métal réfractaire ou d'un alliage de métaux réfractaires, d'azote et d'oxygène, le contenu d'azote du nitrure de métal réfractaire, du nitrure d'alliage de métaux réfractaires ou des produits de réaction d'un métal réfractaire ou d'un alliage de métaux réfractaires, d'azote et d'oxygène étant compris entre environ 3 et environ 22 % at.
