A B S T R A C T A plant seed having a controlled germination time is prepared by enveloping the seed in a continuous coating of a film forming composition comprising a water insoluble polymer and polyvinyl alcohol. Preferably said coating is of a thickness of from about 0.01 to about 0.15 millimeter.
