Medical devices, and in particular implantable medical devices, may be coated to minimize or substantially eliminate a biological organism's reaction to the introduction of the medical device to the organism. The medical devices may be coated with any number of biocompatible materials. Therapeutic drugs, agents or compounds may be mixed with the biocompatible materials and affixed to at least a portion of the medical device. These therapeutic drugs, agents or compounds may also further reduce a biological organism's reaction to the introduction of the medical device to the organism. Various materials and coating methodologies may be utilized to maintain the drugs, agents or compounds on the medical device until delivered and positioned.

L'invention porte sur des dispositifs médicaux et en particulier sur des dispositifs implantables pouvant être enrobés pour réduire ou quasiment éliminer la réaction biologique d'un organisme à l'introduction dudit dispositif dans ce même organisme. Les dispositifs médicaux peuvent enrobés de tout type de matériau ciocompatible. On peut mélanger des médicaments, agents ou composés thérapeutiques à ces matériaux biocompatibles pour les appliquer sur au moins une partie du dispositif médical. Ces médicaments, agents ou composés peuvent en outre atténuer la réaction d'un organisme biologique à l'introduction de ce dispositif dans ce même organisme. On peut utiliser différents matériaux et techniques d'enrobage pour maintenir les médicaments, agents ou composés sur les dispositifs médicaux jusqu'à leur mise en place.
