ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the manufacture of elongate products such as tubes, rod or wire from reactive metals wherein galling of tools is avoided by interposing a layer of ductile metal between the reactive metal and the tool. The ductile metal e.g. copper, is electrodeposited, vapour deposited or deposited by plasma spraying on the reactive metal which is then heated to bond the ductile metal to the reactive metal and the billet thus produced is extruded and drawn.
