A printing medium comprising a substrate having at least one surface and a coating on the surface wherein the coating comprises: (a) binder comprising: (1) organic polymer which is substantially free of ammonium groups, (2) first cationic addition polymer consisting essentially of quaternary ammonium- containing mer units derived from addition monomer and ammonium-free mer units derived from addition monomer, and (3) second cationic addition polymer consisting essentially of secondary, tertiary, or both secondary and tertiary ammonium-containing mer units derived from addition monomer and ammonium-free mer units derived from addition monomer, wherein the binder constitutes from 20 to 90 percent by weight of the coating; and (b) finely divided substantially water-insoluble filler particles which have a maximum dimension of less than 500 nanometers, are distributed throughout the binder, and constitute from 10 to 80 percent by weight of coating. An aqueous coating composition comprising the above binder and filler is also described.

L'invention porte sur un support d'impression comprenant: (a) un substrat pourvu d'au moins une surface sur laquelle est appliqué un revêtement qui comprend: (1) un polymère organique pratiquement exempt de groupes ammonium, (2) un premier polymère d'addition cationique renfermant principalement des unités mer contenant un ammonium quaternaire et dérivées d'un monomère d'addition, et des unités mer sans ammonium dérivées également d'un monomère d'addition; et (3) un second polymère d'addition cationique comprenant principalement des unités mer contenant un ammonium secondaire, un ammonium tertiaire ou à la fois un ammonium secondaire et tertiaire, et dérivées d'un monomère d'addition, le liant constituant de 20 à 90 % en poids du revêtement; et (2) des particules de charge finement divisées et pratiquement insolubles dans l'eau, qui ont une dimension maximale inférieure à 500 nanomètres, sont réparties dans la totalité du liant et constituent de 10 à 80 % en poids du revêtement. L'invention porte également sur une composition de revêtement aqueuse comprenant le liant précité et une charge.
