The present invention relates to a new non- hydroxyl functional resin containing coating composition based on aldimines and isocyanates, which comprises: a) an aldimine having the structure: Image wherein: n averages greater than 1, R1 is alkyl, aryl, cycloaliphatic or substituted alkyl, aryl, cycloaliphatic or heterocyclic group, and R2 is monomeric or polymeric aliphatic, aromatic, arylaliphatic or cycloaliphatic group which may contain O, N, S, or Si; b) an isocyanate functional component comprising uretdione structure; and c) optionally, other active hydrogen compounds. This coating composition can also comprise at least one pigment, filler or extender. The invention also discloses a process for the dispersion of pigments in aldimines, which yields low viscosity dispersions containing little or no organic solvent. These dispersions allow for higher solids coatings and permit full latitude in other compounds used. The invention further discloses aldimines or pigments concentrate compositions and a method for processing dispersions of pigments in aldimines to achieve improved coating properties.
