The invention provides a process that includes a first step of reacting the hydroxyl groups of an acrylic resin having hydroxyl groups and carbamate groups with a compound that converts the hydroxyl groups to new groups unreactive with an aminoplast crosslinker; a second step of combining the acrylic resin reaction product with at least an aminoplast crosslinker to form a coating composition; and a third step of applying the coating composition to a substrate and curing the applied coating layer, in which substantially no ether linkages are formed. Aminoplast crosslinkers are desirable for other reasons such as providing high solids coatings having excellent appearance that cure under moderate conditions. Avoiding the ether linkages that could be formed by reaction of aminoplast crosslinkers with hydroxyl groups improves the resistance of the cured coating to environmental etch.
L'invention concerne un procédé consistant, dans une première phase, à mettre en réaction les groupes hydroxyle d'une résine acrylique comprenant des groupes hydroxyle et des groupes carbamate, avec un composé convertissant les groupes hydroxyle en nouveaux groupes ne produisant pas de réaction avec un agent de réticulation aminoplaste; dans une deuxième phase, à combiner le produit de réaction de la résine acrylique avec au moins un agent de réticulation aminoplaste pour former une composition de peinture; et dans une troisième phase, à appliquer la composition de peinture sur un substrat puis à laisser durcir la couche de peinture appliquée, sensiblement aucune liaison éther ne se formant. Les agents de réticulation aminoplastes s'utilisent pour d'autres raisons, telles que la production de peintures à haut extrait sec dotées d'un aspect excellent et durcissant dans des conditions modérées. L'élimination des liaisons éther pouvant se former par réaction des agents de réticulation aminoplastes avec des groupes hydroxyle permet d'augmenter la résistance de la peinture durcie à la corrosion due à l'environnement.
