The present invention includes biocompatible coatings and films for use on implantable medical devices and medical devices containing such coatings and films applied to a surface thereof, which coatings/films are present on the device in an amount effective to provide an inert surface to be in contact with body tissue of a mammal upon implantation of the device in the mammal, and contain a film-forming polyfluoro copolymer containing the polymerized residue of a moiety selected from the group consisting of vinylidenefluoride and tetrafluoroethylene copolymerized with a second moiety other than the first moiety, wherein the relative amounts of the polymerized residue of the first and second moieties are effective to provide the coating and films with properties effective for use in coating implantable med devices.

L'invention concerne des revêtements et des films biocompatibles s'utilisant sur des dispositifs médicaux implantables et des dispositifs médicaux possédant ces revêtements et ces films appliqués sur une de leur surface. Ces revêtements/films sont présents sur le dispositif en quantité suffisante afin de permettre à une surface inerte d'être en contact avec un tissu humain d'un mammifère par implantation du dispositif dans le mammifère, et contiennent un copolymère polyfluoré filmogène contenant les restes polymérisés du groupe fonctionnel choisi dans le groupe constitué de fluorure de vinylidène et de tétrafluoroéthylène copolymérisés avec un second groupe fonctionnel différent du premier, les quantités relatives de restes polymérisés des premier et second groupes fonctionnels étant efficaces afin de fournir aux revêtements et aux films des propriétés efficaces pour une utilisation dans le revêtement de dispositifs médicaux implantables.
