Disclosed are coating formulations having improved performance properties, comprising (i) 5 to 99.5% by weight (based on the formulation) of at least one polymer component; (ii) 0 to 80% by weight (based on the formulation) of at least one solvent; and (iii) 0.5 to 15% by weight (based on the formulation) of at least one silicon dioxide surface- modified with a polymer and having a 60° reflectometer value of less than 3 and a black number M Y of at least 140, wherein the 60° reflectometer value is determined in accordance with DIN 67530 and the black number My is determined in accordance with DIN 55979.
