Coating powders having a resin system of comprising an epoxy resin and a carboxylic acid functional polymer contain a cure catalyst of formulae (I), (II) or mixtures of (I) and (II): (See Formula I) (See Formula II) where Z is selected from P, As, and N, the R1s are the same or different and are independently selected from alkyl groups, alkenyl groups, and aryl groups; R2s are the same or different and are selected from alkyl groups, phenyl groups, substituted phenyl groups, Br, Cl, I, and F; and the R3s are the same or different and are independently selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl groups, alkenyl groups, acyl groups, cycloalkyl groups, cycloalkenyl groups, aldehyde group, carboxyl group, cyano group and nitro group.
