ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a process wherein an organic coating is formed on a metallic surface by immersing surface the in an acidic aqueous coating composition containing dispersed particles of an organic coating-forming material, wherein said composition forms on said surface an organic coating which increases in thickness the longer the surface is immersed in the composition and wherein the temperature of said composition tends to rise with the result that the quality coatings formed therefrom is affected adversely, the improvement compris- ing maintaining the temperature of said composition at 80°F or lower by contacting the composition with a medium which will absorb heat,
