2046331 9008811 PCTABScor01 A surface is coated with a coating composition comprising (A) a hydroxy component having at least two free hydroxy groups and (B) an anhydride component having at least two cyclic carboxylic anhydride groups, at least one of (A) and (B) being a film-forming polymer. An atomised liquid mixture of the hydroxy component (A) and the anhydride component (B) is sprayed on the surface and a separately packaged volatile amine is incorporated in the spray. The invention includes a liquid coating composition comprising the hydroxy component (A) and the anhydride component (B) and a separately packaged volatile amine having a boiling point in the range 50 to 300·C, preferably 50 to 170·C.
