Abstract Steel is coated with a tough, protective film of plastic resin by abrading the surface of the steel to clean it, heat- ing the cleaned steel with an electric induction coil to above about 400°F., covering the heated portion of the steel with a powdered, fusible, thermosetting plastic, and keeping the co- vered portion of the member and the powder on it at a tempera- ture sufficiently high and long enough to cause the powder to fuse into a continuous film bonded to the steel surface.
