A coating system and method for coating a substrate are disclosed. The coating system and method incorporate a powder-based coating composition, and a film layer of the composition is applied to the substrate, having a first color effect, to produce a second color effect different from the first color effect. The composition includes a powder-based binder and a color effect- providing pigment. The powder-based binder is the reaction product of a resin, having a functional group, and a cross-linking agent reactive with the functional group. The color effect-providing pigment includes a pigment substrate and an inorganic coating. The pigment substrate has first and second substantially parallel and planar surfaces, and the inorganic coating is disposed on the first and second surfaces. The inorganic coating has an index of refraction of 1.8 or less. To produce the second color effect, the inorganic coating and the pigment substrate of the color effect-providing pigment interact with the first color effect of the substrate upon application of the film layer to the substrate.
La présente invention concerne un système de revêtement et un procédé permettant de recouvrir un substrat. Le système et le procédé de revêtement consistent à utiliser une composition de revêtement à base de poudre et à appliquer sur le substrat ayant un premier effet coloré, une couche mince de ladite composition pour produire un deuxième effet coloré différent du premier effet coloré. La composition renferme un liant à base de poudre et un pigment produisant un effet coloré. Le liant à base de poudre est le produit de réaction d'une résine, comprenant un groupe fonctionnel et d'un agent de réticulation réagissant avec le groupe fonctionnel. Le pigment produisant l'effet coloré comprend un substrat de pigment et un revêtement non organique. Le substrat de pigment présente des première et deuxième surfaces planes sensiblement parallèles, le revêtement non organique étant déposé sur les première et deuxième surfaces. Le revêtement non organique présente un indice de réfraction inférieur ou égal à 1,8. Pour produire le deuxième effet coloré, le revêtement non organique et le substrat de pigment du pigment produisant l'effet coloré interagissent avec le premier effet coloré du substrat lors de l'application de la couche mince sur le substrat.
