ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is disclosed a composition useful in the coating of magnetic ferrous material prior to the step of annealing the coated material, which comprises MgO, Mg(OH2) or mixtures thereof, at least one boron compound and at least one amorphous magnesia-silica complex wherein the mole-ratio of the MgO:SiO2 is from 1:25 to 14:1 and the complex contains from about 0.001 to 2% by weight of an alkali metal oxide or hydroxide.
