ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Plastic coated wire is cooled immediately after coating by passing the coated wire through a pair of co-axial pipes or cylinders, the inner cylinder being provided with a plurality of orifices or nozzles through which air passes from between the cylinders under pressure to atomize water flowing down the interior of the inner cylinder and to dislodge water from the plastic coating during passage of the wire through the cylinders. The pipes may be in parallel sections with the wire passing verti- cally through first sections, around a pulley and vertically in the reverse direction through the second section. Water is prevented from escaping through the wire inlet or outlet end of the pipes by inclined orifices, which direct jets of air against the coating in a direction into the pipes.
