ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for providing extended shelf life to sheet and bulk molding compounds comprising an unsaturated polyester resin and an unsaturated monomer soluble in and copolymerizable therewith, while providing for enhanced curing rates at the mold- ing temperature. The process comprises incorporating at least an effective proportion of a cobaltic promoter in said molding compound along with a chemical thickener which is a Group II metal oxide or hydroxide.
