- 1 - Abstract: A cod jigger is described having fish-gripping hooks which are vertically movable within the jigger body. These fish-gripping hooks are operatively linked with normally retracted impaling hooks within the jigger body. When a fish is caught by a fish-gripping hook and is pulled upwardly by a fishing line attached to the jigger, the resulting downward force on the fish-gripping hook causes the fish-impaling hook to swing outwardly from within the body and downwardly to impale the fish from above and prevent it from escaping from the gripping hook.
