Abstract of the Disclosure In a code converting circuit for converting variable length codes into a word code train, each word thereof having N bits, there are provided a code converter for generating variable length codes corresponding to an input signal, a synchronizing code generator for generating a synchronizing code which shows the beginning of the variable length code and having a length equal to at least one word, a code converter for converting the variable length codes into codes of word units, and circuit means for adding a dummy code to a variable length code to complete a word when the variable length code terminates at an intermediate point of one word. csm/
