A method and system for secure identification of a person in an electronic communications environment, wherein a host computer is adapted to be able to communicate with a specific electronic communications device operated by the person. The person is issued with a mask code, known only to the person and stored in the host computer, but never transmitted electronically therebetween. When th person is required to identify him- or herself to the host computer, the host computer transmits a pseudo-random string to the specific electronic communications device, whereupon the mask code must be applied to the pseudo-random string according to predetermined rules so as to generate a volatile identification code which is then transmitted back to the host computer. Positive identification is achieved when the volatile identification code matches a volatile identification code generated within the host computer by applying the mask code stored therein to the pseudo- random string. In this way, a person's mask code is never transmitted electronically and is therefore relatively safe from interception, and the volatile identification code will be different for each different pseudo- random string, thus making a fraudulently intercepted communication meaningless.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système destinés à l'identification sécurisée d'une personne dans un environnement de communications électronique, un ordinateur hôte étant conçu pour être capable de communiquer avec un dispositif de communications électronique spécifique activé par la personne. La personne se voit attribuer un code masque, connu uniquement de la personne et stocké dans l'ordinateur hôte, mais qui n'est jamais transmis sur le plan électronique. Lorsque la personne doit s'identifier auprès de l'ordinateur hôte, celui-ci transmet une chaîne pseudo-aléatoire au dispositif de communications électronique spécifique, suite à cela, le code masque peut être appliqué à ladite chaîne, selon des règles prédéterminées, de manière à générer un code d'identification volatile qui est alors retransmis à l'ordinateur hôte. Le système réalise une identification positive lorsque le code d'identification volatile correspond au code d'identification volatile engendré au sein de l'ordinateur hôte par application du code masque stocké à la chaîne pseudo-aléatoire. Ainsi, un code masque de la personne n'est jamais transmis sur le plan électronique et est donc relativement protégé face à une interception. Ainsi, le code d'identification volatile sera différent pour chaque chaîne pseudo-aléatoire différente, ce qui rend sans intérêt une communication interceptée de manière frauduleuse.
