Abstract of the Disclosure A locking system suitable for use in a safe has locking and unlocking conditions. An electronic device determines whether the locking system is in its locking or unlocking condition and comprises: a store, an input device for entering a master code into the store to be retained therein and a comparison device for comparing the master code with an opening code subsequently entered through the input device. The electronic device further comprises a counter for registering the entry through the input device of an opening code which is not identical to the master code and disabling the operation of the lock for a predetermined time when the number of registered opening codes which are not identical to the master code reaches a predetermined number. A display device indicates the condition of the lock and the occurrence of at least one predetermined failure event.
