A method and apparatus for combining retransmitted hybrid automatic repeat- request (HARQ) messages divided into coding blocks in an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)/orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) receiver are provided. According to such a coding-block-based HARQ combining scheme, the quality of each coding block may be compared to a threshold to determine whether the decoded bits or the HARQ combined signal should be saved for each coding block for subsequent HARQ iterations. In addition to reducing the required HARQ buffer size while preserving the combining gain, coding-block-based HARQ combining may also provide fast decoding and reduced power consumption when compared to conven-tional HARQ combining techniques.

L'invention porte sur un procédé et sur un appareil pour combiner des messages de demande de répétition automatique hybride (HARQ) retransmis divisés en blocs de codage dans un récepteur à multiplexage par répartition orthogonale de la fréquence (OFDM)/à accès multiples par répartition orthogonale de la fréquence (OFDMA). Selon un tel schéma de combinaison HARQ à blocs de codage, la qualité de chaque bloc de codage peut être comparée à un seuil pour déterminer si les bits décodés ou le signal combiné HARQ doivent être, ou non, sauvegardés pour chaque bloc de codage pour des itérations HARQ ultérieures. En plus de réduire la dimension tampon HARQ requise tout en préservant le gain de combinaison, une combinaison HARQ à blocs de codage peut également permettre un décodage rapide et une consommation de puissance réduite par comparaison aux techniques de combinaison HARQ classiques.
