This invention relates to a means of modifying the undesirable exhaust retort on vehicles using engine compression braking systems, from an objectional loud bark to an inaudible audio signal. This is accomplished through automatically or manually selecting a bypass mode for the exhaust gas flow during the compression interval. This re-routing of the flow forces the compressed gasses to flow through a process of alignment orifices under slight compression, developing a condition known as flow coherence. The compression is in place just during the required phase of braking.
