ABSTRACT A container has a rectangular base and a pair of side walls extending generally upward from said base. The side walls are positioned parallel to each other and at least one trough is oriented parallel to said side walls. The trough is adapted to receive a steel coil. The container can be loaded into a transportation device, in particular a railcar having an open flatbed, with the axis of the coil positioned transverse to the general direction of travel.
