Helically wound coil springs (22) are wrapped around and attached at regular intervals to a cable (12), which is positioned within tubing (10). The support springs are attached to the cable to provide support to the cable. The upper section of each support spring is affixed to the cable. A remainder of each spring is formed in a long open helix facing downward when the tubing is installed in a well. The open helix portion of the spring is larger than the inside diameter (28) of the coiled tubing. During placement into the coiled tubing, the springs elongate and decrease in diameter. When the coiled tubing is installed vertically within a well, the springs compress due to the weight of the cable and engage the inside surface of the coiled tubing with a substantial portion of their length, thereby supporting the cable.

Des ressorts à bobinage (22) enroulé en spirale sont enroulés autour d'un câble (12) et attachés à ce dernier à intervalles réguliers, le câble étant placé à l'intérieur d'une gaine (10). Les ressorts de support sont fixés au câble de manière à le supporter. La partie supérieure de chaque ressort de support est fixée au câble. Une partie inutilisée de chaque ressort est configurée sous forme d'une longue hélice ouverte orientée vers le bas lorsque la gaine est installée dans un puits. La partie d'hélice ouverte du ressort est plus grande que le diamètre (28) intérieur de la gaine spiralée. Lorsqu'on place les ressorts dans la gaine spiralée, ces derniers s'allongent et par conséquent leur diamètre diminue. Quand on installe la gaine spiralée verticalement dans un puits, les ressorts se compriment sous l'effet du poids du câble et se trouvent en contact avec la surface intérieure de la gaine spiralée sur une partie substantielle de leur longueur, ceci leur permettant de supporter le câble.
