A coin dispenser is provided for dispensing coins from a stack of coins contained therein. The dispenser includes an elongate casing having an opening at a dispensing end and an inner chamber extending longitudinally through the casing from the opening. The chamber is suitably sized to receive a stack of coins therein. The dispensing end of the casing is inclined such that the opening therein is generally elliptical in shape while being suitably sized to dispense the coins therethrough. A retaining member spans only partway across the opening for inhibiting the passage of coins through the opening while permitting access to the coins to manually urge the coins sequentially through the opening. This is particularly useful in coin operated gaming facilities when it is desirable to insert a roll of coins into a single coin receiving slot of a coin operated machine.
