L'invention concerne un distributeur de pièces permettant de diminuer le temps de distribution de pièces et d'allonger la durée de vie de fonctionnement d'un mécanisme de distribution de pièces par réduction du nombre d'opérations d'amorçage inactif, ainsi qu'un procédé de commande dudit distributeur de pièces. Ce procédé consiste, en fonction des résultats dénombrés pour un compteur de pièces accumulées dans des tubes à pièces pour chaque tube à pièces, à détecter en fonction du tube à pièces amorcé inactif, le tube à pièces dans lequel une pièce est accumulée, lorsque le nombre de pièces accumulées est inférieur à une quantité spécifiée. Puis, lors de la distribution des pièces, le procédé consiste à réaliser l'opération d'amorçage inactif permettant de réaliser une opération de distribution dans un état qui empêche la distribution des pièces à partir du tube à pièces, uniquement lorsque le tube à pièces amorcé inactif est détecté.
