ABSTRACT A coin sorter includes a rotating disc on the surface of which the coins are deposited; means cooperating with the disc to separate the coins into a single layer and single file at an exit; sorting stations disposed circumferentially about the peripheral edge of the disc, one sorting station for each denomination of coin to be sorted; and diverter means for directing coins leaving the exit to the peripheral edge of the disc where the coins are carried by the edge of the disc past the sorting stations; the sorter permits sorting of coins of mixed denominations and arranging of coins into a single file and single layer for subsequent sorting or other coin processing.
