A coin sorter for sorting mixed coins by denomination. The apparatus comprises a rotable disc (13) which has a resilient surface (16) for receiving coins and imparting rotational movement to the coins. A stationary sorting head (12) has a contoured surface spaced slightly away from and generally parallel to the resilient surface of the rotatable disc. The stationary sorting head sorts and discharges coins of different denominations at different exits (350-355) around the periphery of the stationary stationary sorting head. The sorting head includes a separate exit channel for each denomination of coin, and a sensor (S1-S6) for each coin denomination within the exit channel for that denomination. An encoder monitor; the movement of a sensed coin on the rotating disc downstream of the sensors by monitoring the angular movement of the rotating disc. Further, a coin discriminator is used to detect foreign and counterfeit coins and to prevent the detected invalid coins from being discharged with the valid coins.
Appareil de triage d'un mélange de pièces de monnaie selon la valeur nominale de celles-ci. L'appareil comporte un disque rotatif (13) possédant une surface élastique (16) destinée à recevoir les pièces de monnaie et à leur imprimer un mouvement rotatoire. Une tête trieuse fixe (12) présente une surface profilée généralement parallèle à la surface élastique du disque rotatif, et séparée de cette surface par une faible distance. La tête trieuse fixe trie les pièces et les décharge, selon leur valeur nominale, par différents orifices de sortie (350-355) situés à la périphérie de la tête trieuse fixe. Ladite tête trieuse comporte un passage de sortie indépendant correspondant à chacune des valeurs nominales des pièces, et un détecteur de valeur nominale (S1-S6) monté dans un passage de sortie respectif. Un codeur suit le déplacement en aval des détecteurs d'une pièce détectée sur le disque rotatif en contrôlant le déplacement angulaire du disque rotatif. En outre, un discriminateur sert à détecter les pièces étrangères et les fausses pièces de monnaie et empêche la distribution simultanée des pièces valables et des pièces non valables ainsi détectées.
