ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A door return spring mechanism for a door hinged to a frame for movement between an open and a closed posi- tion. There is a side wall surface on the frame, perpen- dicular to the hinge axis of said door. A first member is slidable along the surface. A spring is mounted between the frame and the slidable member and there are rail means fixed to the slidable first member and parallel to the sur- face. An arm extends from the door and has an end captive for movement along the rail means. The slidable member, the rail and the arm are constructed so that opening of the door, and the consequent arcuate motion of the captive arm end relative to the frame, is resolved into motion of the captive end along the rail means and sliding movement of the slidable first member against the spring means. The spring thus urges the door towards its closed position.
