Abstract Coke receiving and quenching container in coke ovens The invention relates to a coke receiving and quenching container traversable along a battery of coke ovens and usable in conjunction with a smoke collector hood, said container being moved only a short distance in slow travel along the battery during the coke pushing operation, the container loading starting in multiple layers at one end of the container and progressing slowing to the other end thereof. Horizontal sealing plates (15, 16) are fitted to the container at the level of the top edges of the end walls (13, 14) on each side; the total of the length of the two sealing plates is not less than the distance travelled by the car during coke pushing. Slots (x) are left between the bottom edges of the side walls (21) of the hood (19) or extension plates (22, 23) disposed thereon, and the sealing plates (15, 16), such slots allowing entry beneath the hood (19) of a quantity of air giving uniform extraction of the emission forming during pushing. In addition, gaps of equal width can also be left along the top edges of the longitudinal walls of the container. (Fig. 6)
