ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cold weather breathing device designed to use body heat to heat the air being inhaled by the user comprises a mouthpiece, a valve unit containing first and second valves in air communication with the mouthpiece and a conduit extending downwardly from the valve unit. The first valve provides air communication between the conduit and the mouthpiece when the user inhales, and blocks said aircommunica- tion when the user exhales. The second valve provides air communication between the mouthpiece and an exhaust opening of the valve unit when the user exhales, and blocks such air communication when the user inhales. A shield unit including a substantially air impervious member is coupled to an end of the conduit remote from the mouthpiece. A plurality of projections extend from the air impervious member for spacing the air impervious member from the body of the user to provide at least one air passage between the air impervious member and the body of the user, the at least one air passage being in air communication with the interior of the conduit. In this manner, body heat is used to effectively heat the air being inhaled by the user via the air passage, conduit and valve unit. Swivel connections and hinge connections may be incorporated in the con- duit, and/or an improved dual-flap valve arrangement may be provided to reduce vibration and to provide a faster acting valve device. Further disclosed is a deflector baffle arrangement which promotes synchronous valve cycling even under severe conditions and a cool air bypass in the conduit of the device to enable the user to mix cool and warm air so as to provide the desired temperature of the breathed in air.
