A stacking chair (10) is disclosed, comprising a central seat component (12) and a frame component (14). The seat component (12) is rotatably mounted to the frame component (14) and can rotate from a first upright position for use to a second inverted position for storage. The surface (46) of the frame member (14) and the surface (32) of the seat component (12) are complimentarily radiussed, as is the surface (48) of the frame member (14) and the surfaces (20, 22) of the seat member (12). Accordingly, with the seat component (12) in its inverted storage position, the chair (10) has complimentarily concave upper and bottom surfaces such that one such chair may be stacked in nesting fashion onto a second chair. Positive retention means (26, 52, 54) are provided to retain the seat component (12) in either position relative to the frame member (14), and retention means (30, 58) maintain the seat component (12) from lateral movement.
