A collapsible container for storage and transportation of liquids, slurries and powders. The container is of generally cuboid or rectangular parallelepiped shape and has sidewalk which fold inwardly upon the application of a force in the vertical direction. The height of the container can be substantially reduced when the sidewalls are folded. The container is retained in its collapsible position by the application of an airtight cap or by a retaining strap or sleeve. Upon removal of the cap, strap or sleeve, the resiliency of the sidewalk causes them to substantially unfold and the container is then ready for filling.
