The present invention provides a hockey stick comprising: a lower handle portion having a blade disposed on one end thereof; an upper handle portion; and a releasable connection means wherein the connection means connects adjacent ends of the upper and lower handle portions. Preferably, the connection means comprises a male-female connection wherein one of the lower handle portion or the upper handle portion is provided with a female configuration which forms a complementary fit with a male configuration on the other handle portion such that a flush connection exists across the outer surfaces of the upper handle portion and lower handle portion.
