The present invention provides a stackable, self-supporting container comprising: (a) a semi-enclosed container body (20) including a tubular structure having two open ends and a bottom panel (70) enclosing one end of the container body, the other end of the tubular structure opposite from the bottom panel forming a substantially continuous outwardly-extending peripheral flange (25), the tubular structure including two opposed side walls, two opposed end walls between the side walls, the side walls and said end walls together forming the tubular structure, each of the end walls including a central portion and a pair of opposing supporting flaps (52) hingedly connected to the central portion and moveable between a position substantially planar with the central portion and a position substantially perpendicular with the central portion; (b) a lid (40) for selectively converting the semi-enclosed container to a closed container; and (c) a closure means for sealing said lid to the container body. The closure means preferably includes a mechanical interlocking seal, and the supporting flaps are preferably unitarily formed with the central portion and preferably lock in the perpendicular position.

Cette invention a trait à un contenant empilable et autoporteur comprenant, (a), un corps semi-fermé (20) comportant une structure tubulaire possédant deux extrémités libres et un panneau constituant un fond (70) fermant une extrémité dudit corps, l'autre extrémité de la structure tubulaire à l'opposé du fond formant une collerette périphérique s'étendant vers l'extérieur de façon quasiment continue (25). La structure tubulaire comporte deux parois latérales opposées, deux parois d'extrémité entre les parois latérales, ces quatre parois constituant ensemble la structure tubulaire, chaque paroi d'extrémité comportant deux volet opposés de support (52) raccordés de manière articulée à la partie centrale et pouvant passer d'une position quasiment plane par rapport à cette partie centrale à une position quasiment perpendiculaire par rapport à cette même partie. Ce contenant comprend également, (b), un couvercle (40) permettant de transformer le contenant semi-fermé en contenant fermé et, (c), une fermeture permettant de fermer hermétiquement le couvercle sur le corps. Cette fermeture comporte, de préférence, un joint mécanique d'interblocage et les volets de support, qui sont, de préférence, d'une seule pièce avec la partie centrale, se bloquent, de préférence, en position perpendiculaire.
