A collision test apparatus (20) comprises input (22) and output members (23) formed from incompressible liquids and between which is positioned a sample (24) whose impact characteristics are to be measured. A compression wave is input to the input member (22) and propagated through the sample (24) and into the output member (23). Suitable detectors (33, 34) detect the input compression wave, output compression wave and any part of the input compression wave reflected off the sample (24).

Cette invention concerne un dispositif d'essai aux chocs (20) comprenant un élément d'entrée (22) et un élément de sortie (23) qui sont constitués par des liquides incompressibles et entre lesquels est disposé un échantillon (24) dont on veut mesurer les caractéristiques de résistance aux chocs. Une onde de compression est appliquée é l'élément d'entrée (22) et se propage à travers l'échantillon (24) avant d'atteindre l'élément de sortie (23). Des détecteurs appropriés (33, 34) détectent l'onde de compression d'entrée, l'onde de compression de sortie et toute composante de l'onde de compression d'entrée réfléchie par l'échantillon (24).
