P/8575/GEF/CA - 11 - ABSTRACT A Collision Warning System This invention provides a localised collision warning system, particularly applicable to ships or aircraft, and comprises a radar 2 that scannes a region 3, locates vehicles 4 within that region, and identifies the position of any vehicle. This information is utilised by a comparator in a control building 7, in conjunction with information from a terrain data base, to provide a warning signal if the position and heading of a vehicle 4 are such that it is likely to collide with the terrain in that area. The warning signal is transmitted via communication equipment 5 to the vehicle 4 so that it may take evasive action.
