A color image reading apparatus comprises: a multi-chip image sensor having a plurality of image sensor units adapted to read a test chart comprising a color slip having a plurality of colors; and processing circuit for automatically calculating color correcting coefficients respectively for the plurality of image sensors, and storing them in memory. This will eliminate the difficulty that a plurality of image sensor units are different in color reproducibility, or similarly a plurality of color image reading apparatus are different in color reproducibility.

'invention est un appareil de lecture d'images en couleur comportant un capteur d'images multipuce ayant une pluralité d'unités de saisie d'images adaptées à la lecture des mires multicolores, et un circuit de traitement servant à calculer automatiquement le coefficient de correction des couleurs pour chacune des différentes unités de saisie d'images et les stocker en mémoire. Ceci élimine le problème du manque d'uniformité dans la reproduction des couleurs entre les unités de saisie d'images, ou encore entre plusieurs appareils de lecture d'images en couleurs.
