An active matrix color sequential liquid crystal display has an active matrix circuit, a counterelectrode panel and an interposed layer of liquid crystal. The active matrix display is located in a portable microdisplay system that has a display computer that generates images to be displayed on the liquid crystal display and connected to the active matrix liquid crystal display. A data link transmits data at a rate of speed of greater than 200 Mbytes per second in series for at least a portion between the display computer and the active matrix liquid crystal display. In a preferred embodiment, the display system has a randomizing device that alternates the amplifier through which an analog video signal passes. In another embodiment, the display system comprises three LEDs of different colors which are sequentially flashed during each frame. After each flashing step, the pixel electrodes are initialized to a set voltage.
L'invention concerne un afficheur couleur à cristaux liquides séquentiels et matrice active possédant un circuit à matrice active, un panneau de contre-électrode et une couche de cristaux liquides interposée. L'afficheur à matrice active est disposée dans un micro-afficheur portatif comportant un calculateur d'affichage qui génère des images à afficher sur l'afficheur à cristaux liquides et matrice active auquel il est connecté. Une liaison de transmission de données transmet des données à un débit supérieur à 200 mégaoctets par seconde en série pour au moins une partie entre le calculateur d'affichage et l'afficheur à cristaux liquides et matrice active. Dans une forme de réalisation préférée, le système d'affichage comprend un dispositif de randomisation qui alterne l'amplificateur par lequel passe un signal vidéo analogique. Dans une autre forme de réalisation, le système d'affichage comprend trois DEL de couleurs différentes scintillant séquentiellement pendant chaque trame. Après chaque étape de scintillement, les électrodes des pixels sont initialisées relativement à une tension prédéterminée.
