A method for determining a type of brake fluid that includes contacting a colorimetric reagent on a substrate (Fig. 1). An embodiment of the method reacts to the presence of a borate ester in brake fluid to produce a color contacted by DOT 4/5.1 brake fluid or a second color in the presence of pure DOT 3 fluid. In the event of mixtures of DOT 3 with DOT 4/5.1, a third color results when contacted by a mixture of DOT 3 and DOT 4/5.1 brake fluid in which the DOT 4/5.1 fluid is about 50% or less of the mixture.
L'invention porte sur un procédé pour déterminer un type de liquide de frein qui comprend la mise en contact d'un réactif colorimétrique sur un substrat (Fig.1). Un mode de réalisation du procédé réagit à la présence d'un ester de borate dans un liquide de frein pour produire une couleur en cas de contact par un liquide de frein DOT 4/5.1 ou une deuxième couleur en présence d'un liquide DOT 3 pur. Dans le cas de mélanges de DOT 3 avec DOT 4/5.1, une troisième couleur résulte en cas de contact par un mélange de liquides de frein DOT 3 et DOT 4/5.1 dans lequel le liquide DOT 4/5.1 représente environ 50 % ou moins du mélange.
