ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An aluminium or aluminium alloy article is coloured in a method in which the article having an oxide film thereon is placed in a solution of at least one salt of at least one metal of Group VIII of the Periodic Table an alternating current is passed through the article, and then a direct current is passed through a solution of electrolyte, in which the article is used as an anode.
