A manual gas vent assembly is provided herein for use in venting gas from the interior of a conventional, unvented ostomy collection pouch. Such vent assemblyincludes a manually-operable valve assembly having an open position, which permits gas to pass therethrough from the interior of an ostomy collection pouch to the atmosphere, and a normally-closed position for preventing gas from passing therethrough. The valve assembly includes an input portion for communicating with the interior of the ostomy collection pouch, and an output portion for communicating with the atmosphere. Reusable mounting means are provided for mounting the valve assembly to the ostomy collection pouch to provide access to the interior thereof. The reusable mounting means thus releasably retains therein a portion of the manually-operable valve assembly so as to position the input portion of the valve assembly proximate a stoma of a user. The mounting means includes a valve mount for receiving therein the input portion of the valve assembly, the valve mount having an invasive portion for extending through the ostomy collection pouch, thereby providing access to the interior thereof. It also includes an internal retainer to be disposed in the interior of the ostomy collection pouch, the internal retainer being for removably-receiving therein the invasive portion of the valve mount. It further includes means for removably-securing the invasive portion of the valve mount to the internal retainer. Finally, it includes means for sealing a portion of the ostomy collection pouch to provide access to the interior thereof and to permit the insertion of the valve assembly therethrough, the piercing means being part of the input portion of the valve assembly.
