ABSTRACT A process or producing colored, air laid nonwoven fibrous webs which involves coloring only a portion of all the required fiber by applying a dye thereto. The colored and uncolored portions of fiber, defibrated to substantially individual fibers, are separately suspended in air and deposited as contiguous layers arranged so that a layer of colored fibers is on at least one exterior side of the web product. By applying dye to only a portion of the fiber content of the web, economy of dye and processing is achieved, and novel, color-layered nonwoven webs are produced. - 12 -
